Nela Pamuković is the Co-Founder of the feminist, anti-militaristic non-governmental organisation, Centar Za Žene Žrtve Rata (Centre for Women War Victims) in Zagreb. The centre was founded in 1992, in response to the increasing violence against women during the Yugoslav Wars of the 1990s. In our interview, Nela notes with a smile that the centre was only intended to be a short-term project to empower women in the region. The fact that the centre is still going strong nearly 30 years on appears to be both a sign of the determination of Nela and her team, and that patriarchy’s violence against the female body has remained a grim constant. Watch Politika News’ interview with Nela on war violence against women, nationalism, and searching for hope.
