This week marks 26 years since genocide was perpetrated in Srebrenica, in July 1995. The genocide took place within the context of the Bosnian War, which lasted from 1992 to 1995. In Srebrenica, 8,372 Bosniaks (Bosnian Muslims), mainly men and boys, were murdered by Orthodox Serb forces in what has been recognised by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia as genocide. As the world commemorates Srebrenica Memorial Week, Politika News spoke with Srebrenica survivor, Almasa Salihović, about her family’s story.
